History
The Horticultural Society was founded in around 1840, with the first competition/show being held in 1841. It was formed originally by the professional gardeners who worked in the various large houses in the area.
Unfortunately this was before the Largs and Millport Weekly News was printed, so records from those early days are virtually non existant. However some articles from the 'Weekly News' from later years have been found, and some of these can be read below.
